How It Works

This calculator estimates paint quantity for drywall by applying a surface-condition-specific coverage rate to your total area.

  1. Enter total drywall area: Measure your total drywall area in square meters. Add up all walls and ceilings you plan to paint.
  2. Select surface condition: Choose Unprimed (7 m²/L), Previously Primed (10 m²/L), or Recoat (12 m²/L). The coverage rate changes automatically.
  3. Set coats and waste: Two coats is recommended for new drywall. A 10% waste factor covers roller absorption and touch-ups.
  4. Toggle L/gal: Switch between litres and US gallons. Your preference is saved across all paint calculators.

Formula: Paint = (Area × Coats) ÷ Coverage Rate × (1 + Waste %)

Note: Unprimed drywall requires ~43% more paint than primed (7 vs 10 m²/L). The calculator accounts for this automatically — no manual adjustment needed.
