How It Works

This calculator estimates total paint cost from quantity and price, applying coats and waste factor with integer-cents arithmetic for precise results.

  1. Choose your unit: Toggle between liters and gallons. Enter quantity and price in your preferred unit — the calculator handles conversion internally.
  2. Enter paint quantity: The volume needed for one coat of your surface area. Use the Paint Coverage or Room Paint calculator to find this if you have room dimensions.
  3. Set coats and waste: Two coats is standard. A 10% waste factor covers roller absorption and touch-ups.
  4. Enter price per unit: The retail price per liter or gallon of your chosen paint.

Formula: Total Volume = Quantity × Coats × (1 + Waste %). Total Cost = Total Volume × Price per unit.

All cost arithmetic uses integer cents to avoid floating-point rounding errors common in dollar calculations.
