Spray Paint Coverage Calculator

Calculate how much spray paint you need with sprayer type selector. Airless and HVLP modes adjust for transfer efficiency. Aerosol mode outputs can count instead of volume.

How It Works

This calculator estimates spray paint quantity using transfer efficiency for airless and HVLP sprayers, or can count for aerosol applications.

  1. Enter surface area: Total area to spray in square metres.
  2. Select sprayer type: Airless (68% efficiency), HVLP (78% efficiency), or Aerosol Can. The result mode changes based on your selection.
  3. For airless/HVLP: Select paint coverage type (Standard, High-Build, or Thin/Lacquer), set number of coats, and adjust waste factor.
  4. For aerosol: The result shows can count directly. One 400g aerosol can covers approximately 2.5 m². No additional settings needed.

Sprayer formula: Effective Rate = Nominal Rate × Transfer Efficiency. Paint = (Area × Coats) ÷ Effective Rate × (1 + Waste %)

Aerosol formula: Cans = ⌈Area ÷ 2.5⌉ (rounded up to whole cans)
