Use one measured brief, in a deliberate sequence
- Measure existing removal separately. Record each existing slab section's length, width and thickness, then use Concrete Removal & Demolition Calculator (C01) for solid volume, entered density, broken-rubble volume and payload/container checks.
- Record the proposed driveway specification. Keep each new section's footprint, specified slab thickness and specified base thickness in the same unit system. Do not copy demolition dimensions or thicknesses into a new design without checking the drawings and site conditions.
- Check individual material takeoffs where useful. The Concrete Slab Calculator is a standalone slab-volume and bag check. Use the Driveway Gravel Calculator to discuss a base material's volume and weight basis with its supplier. Use the Rebar Calculator only after an approved reinforcement layout and spacing are known.
- Build the quote worksheet. Enter the specified sections, the supplier's concrete increment, a confirmed base order quantity, separately supplied reinforcement and scoped rates in the Concrete Driveway Cost Calculator (C13). Keep an all-in contractor quote exclusive from itemized component charges.
- Compare written scope before deciding. Bring the actual quote date, access, pumping, preparation, finishing, disposal, permits, tax treatment and exclusions to G09: the itemized outdoor project estimate guide.
Worked measurement handoff — illustrative only
Suppose an existing rectangular driveway is measured at 10 m × 3 m × 100 mm. Its solid removal input is 10 × 3 × 0.100 = 3.000 m³; C01 then needs the local density, rubble expansion and hauler limits before it can report a disposal plan. That solid removal figure is not a new concrete order.
For a separately specified replacement section of the same 30 m² footprint, a 125 mm slab is 30 × 0.125 = 3.750 m³ before supplier ordering, while a separately specified 100 mm base is 30 × 0.100 = 3.000 m³. Enter those dimensions and the actual supplier increment in C13; retain the supplier's confirmed base quantity rather than assuming loose delivery volume, compaction conversion or a structural section. If reinforcement is specified, enter its approved layout in the rebar tool rather than deriving it from area.
These are arithmetic examples for handing measurements between tools, not a thickness recommendation, design, disposal acceptance decision, ready-mix order or installed-price quote.
What each result does — and does not — flow into
C01 starts with the existing solid concrete and keeps mass tied to that solid volume; its broken-rubble volume helps discuss container capacity, not new material demand. C13 starts from the proposed sections and retains calculated concrete need, supplier-purchased concrete, confirmed base quantity, reinforcement and priced lines separately. A supplier quote, not either calculator, determines the price basis and inclusions.
There is no shared driveway project form in this phase. The only phase-two interactive project MVP is the Paver Patio Planner. This driveway page has no save, export, share link, project state or address-encoded inputs. Copy measured values into the appropriate existing tool manually and keep your private notes and quotes outside the public URL.
Field checks, sources and limitations
Use G01: concrete removal, volume, weight and disposal for measurement and hauling/disposal distinctions. It explains why solid volume, rubble volume, mass and provider limits must not be substituted for one another. Use G09 for the quote rows and budget treatment after quantities are known.
This planning index does not select thickness, reinforcement, base gradation, compaction, drainage, joints, edge details, subgrade treatment, slope, curing, access, traffic loading, permits, utility protection, demolition sequence, waste classification or local compliance. Confirm drawings, site conditions, product instructions, supplier order bases, disposal acceptance and professional requirements before ordering or construction.
