Carpet Roll Layout Calculator

Plan full-width carpet cuts for one rectangular room, then see the measured, allowance-adjusted and supplier-rounded running-length purchase, seams, offcuts and optional local material cost.

Part of the Surfaces & Finishes calculators — see all tools in this category.

Carpet roll layout estimate

Turn one rectangular room into full-width carpet cuts, seam positions, ordered running length, and an optional local material-cost line.

Measurement system
Rectangular room and roll

This calculator supports one rectangular room, full roll-width cuts, and no reuse of offcuts between cuts or rooms.

Cut and seam policy
Seam quantities remain in the text table when lines are hidden.

Nap-direction matching and offcut reuse are intentionally unsupported because they need a separately measured project layout.

Ordering refinement

Apply the supplier's documented allowance once after all cut and repeat refinement. If the supplier sells only fixed running lengths, use its increment; zero retains the after-allowance length.

Net is the measured room floor. Trim and pattern repeat determine each cut, then the ordering allowance is applied once to the combined cut need; supplier increment rounding happens once after that. Purchased carpet is fixed roll width × purchased running length and is the quantity used for the optional per-area price. Offcuts and seam overlap are purchased material, not extra floor coverage. A blank price is an incomplete purchase line, not $0.

Warnings
  • No pattern-repeat refinement is applied. Confirm the selected carpet’s pattern and installer direction.
  • Offcuts are reported but are not reused in this single-room layout or credited against another cut.
  • No seam is required for the selected roll width and orientation.

How it works and assumptions

Enter the room length and width, selected carpet roll width, and cut running direction. The calculator lays out full-width cuts across the room, adds trim, optionally rounds each cut to its pattern repeat, then applies allowance and supplier running-length rounding once. It reports combined purchased running length rather than treating carpet as generic floor area.

For finish-planning context, use the live Surfaces & Finishes Guide and the Carpet Roll Orientation, Seams & Waste guide.

Worked example

The calculator includes a separate 6 m × 4.5 m worked example with trim, overlap, allowance and supplier rounding so you can inspect cut and purchase arithmetic independently of the UAT case.
